Scholarship

I admit it. I could sure use some help paying for my education. Times are tough, and I come from a lower middle-class income background.

I often hear it said that there is lots of scholarship money out there if people would just take advantage of it. That is true, but only to an extent. What I have found is that there are scholarships, but they are often specific to certain things, and they are generally competitive. There may be only one scholarship awarded among hundreds of applicants.

Many of the scholarships are targeted to high school seniors, in public school, who go directly to college. I was home-schooled and took a year between college and high school to volunteer with Americorps. Afterward, I was surprised to find that I didn’t qualify for 80% of the scholarships I researched. Now, I am in my sophomore year of college, and scholarships are even harder to obtain.

Today, college is super-expensive, and I made the choice to attend a Christian college so that my classes would have a Christian worldview. With it being a private school, costs run around $40,000 to $60,000 per year. Although only God knows what my future holds, it is currently my plan to return to Garrett County to practice.

I am in the Clinical Psychology major, with a minor in Public Speaking. My plan is to continue to a doctorate and work with the Neuro-divergent population, both in a clinical setting and with research.

I have a 4.0, and am the president of the Autism club at Liberty University, where I help provide activities and mentorship for the Neuro-divergent population at college. I am heavily involved in research and advocacy for Autism, and I chose my minor because I plan to continue in Autism advocacy.

“Why Autism?” I am often asked. Well, I am Autistic, and I know how difficult it is for the Neurodivergent population in a Neurotypical world. I have many challenges and barriers myself. And that will help me in my chosen field because I won’t just have head-knowledge, but rather, I can truly understand the challenges my patients may face.

Many times, people don’t understand that individuals with High Functioning Autism truly have a disability because they may look normal. But the disability is real, and it’s hard. When I was diagnosed, the Neuro-psychologist told me to embrace who I am and to be proud of myself for my differences. It changed my world. And I want to do the same for many others who feel outcast and alone in their struggle.

But I could sure use your help. Right now, student loans are at 9% interest. Although I have many academic scholarships and am in the honors program, there are still thousands of dollars that I have to take out in loans most semesters. That is for tuition and room and board only. I work and my parents contribute to all of my other expenses. So, that money isn’t being used for extras.

Someone told me when I was just a little girl that if I needed help to ask. So, I am asking.

I need help with two things..tuition and paying back the loans I have already taken out.

For tuition, you can support me by either sending a check directly to Liberty University at the address below (make sure you put my student ID on it) or by using the button in my store to send it. If you use the button in the store, it will come directly to me, and I will use it to pay for tuition or college loans from previous semesters. You will get a receipt when you use the button. I don’t think Liberty sends receipts for checks sent directly, but I can make one up for you if you will ask me.

If you send a check directly to Liberty, please email me and let me know so that I can make sure they received it and applied it to my account.

Clearly, I am hoping that those who can afford to do so will be generous, but even if you can only give a small amount, I will be thankful. After all, if 100 people would give $25, it would be $2,500. But if none of those 100 people give anything it is $0. Your generosity would make such a difference to me!

When donating through this site, please drop me an email and let me know if you have a preference as to whether I use the funds for current tuition or to help pay student loans I have already taken out.

To Send a check directly to Liberty University:

Make the check out to Liberty University and put in the Memo line – “Scholarship for Hannah Frazee – Student ID L30444647”.

Mail to: Liberty University, Attn: Financial Aid  1971 University Blvd, Lynchburg, VA 24515

Thank you so much!
